The first National Assembly session has finished and various new laws have been passed by President Jaxson Renny. During this session, four bills were voted on by representatives. The most important of which was the Family Voting Bill presented by VP Luke Fitzgibbins. The bill aimed to revoke suffrage from citizens above the age of twenty. This bill has a lot of support from citizens in Phillip but did not get the votes necessary to pass the Assembly. Only two out of the seven seats voted in favor of it. VP Fitzgibbins plans on continuing to put the bill through the assembly until it gets passed. The sole reason that it did not get through the Assembly was because of Rep. Iyan Seeker. During the first Presidential election, he was Minister Reed Von's running mate. They became the second most popular candidate and almost won the election because of support from Seeker's family members. If Iyan Seeker wants to run for President with Reed Von in the next election, it would be ideal for them to have the support of Seeker's family members again. Because of that, he is vehemently against the Bill and plans on vetoing it when it is presented again in the Assembly. Both members of the Ugandan QAnon Social Workers Coalition are also against the bill, claiming that it would be a violation of the rights of Phillip's citizens.
There were three other bills that passed with support from Assembly, as follows:
Management of Territories Bill: Cleared up a constitutional dispute on how land could be claimed for the Republic by abolishing a section allowing the President to claim land at their own free will. It also provided a procedure on how land should be claimed in the future.
Mint Bill: Introduced by VP Fitzgerald and sought to make new regulations and rules for the Minister of Mint. This includes a new separate election cycle, making it so the President can appoint members of the mint cabinet, and deciding where to keep Phillip's supply of jolly ranchers, which is what the currency is based off of.
Increase of Terms Bill: Increased terms of all public offices from a month to three months.
President Renny passed the Mint Bill and the Increase of Terms Bill without much deliberation, but almost vetoed the Management of Territories Bill. His indecision was created by a dispute between him and Rep. Cooper Norfolk after he told the President that the Assembly would not be in support of annexing a GameStop location in the vicinity of Phillip. Eventually, he gave up on his dreams and passed the bill into law. Now, bills on creating new subdivisions in Phillip can be brought to the National Assembly. Within the Increase of Terms Bill, it states that the next general election will occur on 13 April, exactly three months from when President Renny was elected. If this bill had not been passed, the next election would have already started.
Overall, the first National Assembly session of Phillip went well without any disputes.
